The snow that started yesterday has painted the whole world white. Like a pure white world spread out on a giant canvas, the snow covers everything and seems to announce a new beginning. The weather forecast said it would only snow yesterday, but seeing the fluffy snow fluttering down like this in the morning, it’s truly difficult to predict winter in North Carolina. When I lived in Nebraska and Kansas, this much snow was an annual winter event, so I took it for granted. But here, seeing it snow so heavily feels like a dream.
Dear friends, are you all enjoying a cup of tea in your warm homes, taking a break from your busy lives and admiring the beautiful snow outside the window? The white snow that fills the window seems to show God’s image of purity and forgiveness of sins. Close your eyes for a moment and listen to God’s voice in this quiet world.
In this beautiful scenery, I hope you will open God’s Word and read it, feeling peace and gratitude. I pray that you will fully enjoy this brief moment of leisure that God has given us this week, and that it will be a blessed time to meditate on His love and grace. As you watch the snow piling up, embrace the image of starting anew and hope and faith. God covers our past mistakes and hurts and gives us a new beginning as a gift.
After the snow fell yesterday, I cleared the snow from the church entrance and the sidewalk in front of the house, but it’s snowing again this morning. As I watched the black mud footprints where I had walked being covered again with pure white snow, I was lost in thought for a moment. Aren’t our lives like this? No matter how much effort and hard work we put in, time and circumstances are constantly changing. Sometimes it feels like our efforts are in vain, but God remembers our effort and dedication with love and patience and gives us new opportunities with grace and blessing.
When it snows, children seem to be the most excited. Seeing pictures of children making snowmen and sledding on Facebook, I am reminded of my childhood memories. When I was young, I used to look for hills in the neighborhood to sled on whenever it snowed. I also remember the children in Sunday school sledding on a small slope leading down to the underground fellowship hall on Sundays, trying to satisfy their disappointment at not having a bigger hill. In the laughter of children and the sight of them running around in the snow, I discover joy and playfulness. We also need to look at the world with a pure heart like children sometimes and enjoy the joy and laughter that God has given us.
Today, as you look at the softly falling snow, feel God’s image of love and grace. And in the laughter of children, discover joy and happiness. In this beautiful winter scenery, I earnestly pray that you will become closer to God and have a day full of love and happiness.
